It's been a busy summer for Movable. We've updated the site with new recovery stories, including videos from our partnership with Great Rivers Regional System for Addiction Care and songs from our collaboration with composer Jonathon Shuff. Additionally, Movable team members have presented at several national and regional events.
First, editors Kristen Lillvis, Stefan Schöberlein, and Hilton Córdoba, with contributions from senior research assistant Laura Rice, presented virtually at the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery during their National Meeting August 3-6, 2020. Their talk, "Sharing Stories of Recovery: A Toolkit for Facilitating Writing and Art Workshops," addressed the usefulness of digital narratives in promoting recovery, including during workshops at on- and off-campus recovery events.
On August 31, Kristen joined individuals in recovery, loved ones affected by SUD, and recovery leaders throughout the area at the Virtual Day of Hope. Kristen and Denise Hanson, of GRASP Charleston and Greg's Mission, talked about the importance of storytelling to recovery, and then Kristen, Denise, and Cece and Bobby Brown of Ryan's Hope spoke during the remembrance ceremony.
Movable has several events lined up for September--Recovery Month--including one that has already begun. Movable stories are featured at the Meigs County Community Prevention Coalition's first-ever Recovery Walk.
Stay tuned for updates on coming events!
